Sri Ranganathaswamy temple is located in Srirangapatna,  in the Madya district of Karnataka. It is one of the five important Vaishnava Temples of Lord Vishnu in South-India.  Since Srirangapatna is the first temple starting from upstream, the deity is known as Adi Ranga. It means, the First Lord of the stage, in Sanskrit.

In the begging of the 12th century, The Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana, granted the Srirangapatna village to a great master teacher and Vaishnava saint, Ramanujaachaarya. He preached the self knowledge there. And he’s very well known for Vishista-Advaitha. It says that, there is a duality between human personality and Divine mind but humans have that potential to achieve Godhood if he realizes oneness with that Divine Mind.

Most people at that time got confused between Vishista-Advaita, and Advaita-Vendanta. But they both taught about the God within each individual. However, the Ranganatha temple has an imposing tower over the entrance gate. They constricted it in Vijayanagara architectural style. Surrounded by the river Kaveri, this temple gives us a beautiful experience from inside and outside.
