When Swami Vivekananda became a raging fire of enlightenment in The USA within two years of his vast trip across the country in cities like Chicago, Boston, Detroit and New York and for a while, he conducted private lectures to selected students at Thousand Island Park.

Thus in 1894, Vivekananda established the first-ever Vedic Society in the USA called the Vedanta Society of New York where he called Swami Abhedananda from India to run the society. After this, many other vedic societies were formed and many of them came to have been affiliated with this one. The first Hindu temple in the USA has been established in 1905 by the Vedanta Society. Then followed the later temples were built. However, swami Vivekananda never established a temple yet he went into the length and breadth of Vedic philosophy that identifies the divine within man.
