Vaishno Devi is a fierce warrior princess who chose to live a simple life in the wilderness, waiting to be unified with the Supreme Lord. According to a legend, she took inspiration from the Ram to walk the path of Enlightenment. It is said that she used to carry a bow and arrows. One day, she met Lord Ram in the jungle, and she expressed her desire to be with him always. He got very impressed by her abilities and dedication; he said he will return after being victorious in the battle. However, he did return but in a different form. She was unable to recognise him. So, being the lover of the unseen, The Ram had promised her again that he would return in the future as Kalki, where she has to recognise him in order to know the True-self.

From then on, she set up an Ashram under Trikuta mountain. Where she used to host a grand feast once a year to all sages around the globe. A sage sent his disciple Bhairon to that feast, on a mission to test her authenticity. But that man misbehaved with Vaishnavi, she saved herself and killed that man. From Then on, this shrine became notable in Northern India. It is also said that Arjuna spoke of Vaishno Devi in Mahabharatha.
