The great poet-saint Tukaram is such a jewel of this nation that he openly demonstrated the godly abilities within man! He contemplated the divine essence of Pandu Ranga (The White Brotherhood), he also wrote extraordinary poems called the Abhangas. Even though several movies were made on his life, much has been left behind and much intrigues people, his deep knowledge.
Tuka is also a close acquaintance and said to be one of the teachers to Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj wherein an instance he helped him win a battle and save the emperor himself. Tuka is greatly inspired by Adi Shankaracharya’s teachings. Tukaram writes about the inseparable commune of Man and God:
“When salt is dissolved in water, what is it that remains distinct?
I have thus become one in joy with thee and have lost myself in thee.
When fire and camphor are brought together, is there any black remnant left?
Tuka says thou and I are one light.”
It is said that the religious leaders then attacked the saint and he got resurrected himself and one day a divine sky chariot, a spaceship in modern terminology, came, he boarded it in front of all the villagers in 1649.
