When we go back to 90’s when the cable networks were introduced in India, people who’re accustomed to watching one program per week on DD, were habituated to two soap operas a day. In that time, the TVs were a great source of distraction to people just as smartphones are doing the job of a TV these days. When I say TV, it won’t be limited to a CRT monitor or a big OLED. It means the programs you watch can interrupt your daily routine by making you unfocused on anything, by giving cues. Kids are the primary victims of these devices these days that their parents, to escape the responsibility of babysitting, keeping a phone in their child’s hands with a program on. You see? You’re giving an advanced, radiation-emitting and nervous system manipulating device to an innocent child, it’s that very same device that the 60’s rocket scientists didn’t have. So, these days, people talk a lot about reading this or that philosophy but utterly surrender to their habit of excessive screen time, instead of doing research, they simply watch TV, either on a small screen or a Big Screen. It’s always a wise choice to reduce screen time before sleep. And turning your device off while unnecessary.
